[[file:causation.jpg|300px|right|]] One way of explaining how or why changes occur in history is to use Causation. Some of the time there is a connection which is obvious between the results of an event and its purported causes, but history is more complicated than simple causes and effects. Most events of Historical Causation involve a plethora of causes and their respective outcomes. The events and their processes often occur in many different categories, including political, economic, religious, social, intellectual, and within an area or region. The one problem historians face is that they cannot test their hypotheses in laboratories they same way the scientists can by using experiment, but historians use historical evidence and reasoning to make a determination of which probable causes and effects are valid or not. These are often large in their scope and have multiple causes, unintended consequence, and a future event or circumstance that is possible but cannot be predicted with certainty.<br />
