Social Studies Vocabulary
Vocabulary in social studies is crucial to understanding basic concepts and their context in history.
One example would be the word "secular" which means non-religious. It is used to describe governments that are not "theocratic" (a religious run government). Some governments are not considered secular such as many Islamic governments because the religious leaders control the government or they use religious law known as Sharia Law. It is the moral code and religious law of Islam.
Vocabulary is best learned through connections to historical context or within the time period when it was used. Vocabulary can be memorized which allows for quicker recall.
