"Renaissance," French for "rebirth," perfectly describes the intellectual and economic changes that occurred in Europe from the fourteenth (14th) through the sixteenth (16th) centuries. It was a rebirth of Ancient Greek and Roman culture along with technological advances that created the modern age.
