Introduction

There are many complex and narrow definitions of Imperialism, so what actually is imperialism in simple terms?

Let's break it down!

  • an "-ism" ending on any word means a belief in
  • "imperial" - means anything related to a
    monarchy (king/queen)
  • In the 19th century, a king or queen oversees or controls an empire. An "empire" is an area controlled by a monarch.
  • If you switch the "I" and "e" in the word "imperialism" you get "EmpIre, with the "e" dropped when "ism" is added.

So let's review!

Imperialism is the belief in building/making/creating an EMPIRE!

The question is now, How do you make/create, and maintain an Empire?
