Lesson 2 - Syllabus & Class Expectations
Classroom Policies and Expectations
Be on Time
* You are expected to be in your seat by the time class starts.
* Lateness disrupts the classroom environment
Be Prepared
* You are expected to come to school each day with the following items:
* 2 pens or 2 pencils. (Just in case one runs out or breaks)
* A composition notebook
* Loose leaf paper
* A folder for handouts
Homework
* If you do not bring one or more of these items for more than 2 days, the following consequence will occur:
* 1st time and you will receive a phone call home.
* 2nd time and the dean will be contacted.
* 3rd time and the principal will be contacted
* 4th time and your parents or legal guardians will be brought in for a scheduled meeting with the dean, principal, or
guidance counselor.
Be Respectful
* Each person in the room will be respectful towards others in Mr. Ott’s classroom.
* It is expected that each person show their respect by:
* Only one person speaking at a time during class discussions.
* Raising a hand and waiting to be called on.
* Actively listening to each other by looking towards the person speaking and trying to understand their point of
view.
* No foul or degrading language towards others.
* Moving your seat if you are asked to by Mr.Ott or any other authority figure.
* If you do not show your respect in these ways, you will receive the following consequences

* 3rd time and the principal will be contacted

Absences
* If you are absent from Mr. Ott’s class you must do the following
* For more than 2 absences in a row, bring a note explaining your absence that is signed by a parent or legal
guardian, doctor, or authority figure.
* You are expected to check your weekly homework packet and complete your homework.

* You are expected to get the notes from the days that you missed.
* Failure to bring in a note, complete your homework, or copy the notes will result in disciplinary action.
Homework
* No late homework will be accepted.
* Homework must be handed in the day it is due.
Grading Policy
* Grades are based on a point system. exams, projects, quizzes, homework, and daily work are all assigned points.

Grading
Grades are calculated on a point system. The following are the percentages for each category.
Classwork: 50% (Includes: Participation and Completion of daily worksheets and projects)
Quiz & Tests: 25% (Includes: Quizzes, Tests, DBQ’s, Essays, and Projects)
Attendance: 15% (Includes: Absenteeism and lateness)
Homework: 10% (All homework assignments)

Quizzes & Tests
Students who miss quizzes and tests will be allowed to make up that quiz or test at a scheduled (by teacher and student) date. Missing that scheduled date may result in a zero for that quiz or test.
