US History - The Causes of the Civil War Webquest

Introduction

Our founding document, The Declaration of Independence, stated "When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another", this certainly explained a legal reason for a separation, but the issue not resolved at the forming of the nation would come to bare 85 years later. It would be a civil war pitting families against each other, brothers against brothers, and the North's ideology verses the South's.

Webquest Overview

This webquest will explore the causes of the United States Civil War. A war which will cause over 600,000 deaths, which at the present time, is more than all of the wars the United States has ever fought including the American Revolution. Each task will explore a different cause leading to the war. While one of the causes is overwhelmingly the main cause, several issues are explored and culminate in the U.S. Civil War.

The lens for this webquest is a focus on the Causes of the Civil War with slavery and the issues surrounding the antebellum (prewar) South as the main causes for the American Civil War.
