US History - The US Constitution, An American Experiment Webquest
From LearnSocialStudies
The American Experiment began with the 13 Colonies breaking away from their mother country, Great Britain, and continues today. It is a work-in-progress, a continuing effort to form a more perfect union for "We The People". The United States of America is not perfect, it has endured its fair share of trials and tribulations, but still the nation survived and thrived.
While not perfect, it is a place where people from all over the world come, and immigrate to have a chance for a better life. Nothing is guaranteed, nothing is absolute, but it is that hope that keep people idolizing the possibilities.
One present-day example is the former NBA start, Enes Kanter, an immigrant from Turkey, who is now branded a terrorist by the Turkish Government. He changed his name upon becoming a U.S. citizen, to Enes Kanter Freedom. His passion for freedom and free speech in the U.S. allows him to speak out on Human Rights issues around the world. While Enes Kanter Freedom uses his voice to promote freedom and justice, some have payed the ultimate sacrifice and as Lincoln said at Gettysburg, "give their last full measure of devotion" defending our nation. Many have risk their lives and limbs to defend it, so that others may keep their freedoms, and this country safe
Once you realize that the nation and its people are not perfect, it all makes sense. The goal has forever been to create that more perfect union and the one enduring constant is the guiding document called the United States Constitution whose founding principles make it all possible. The framers (creators) of the United States Constitution were the best their states had to offer. They were using their Enlightenment intellect that had originally born a new nation, with the Declaration of Independence eleven years earlier. As the country unfolded, it struggled and teetered, something was needed. New leadership and a new government was the answer.
Let's explore the complex government created by those founding fathers and its legacy to this very day.
